This will consider key phases underlying self-management; planning, performance and motivation and using feedback to appraise development. We will also consider the role of values in providing a supporting framework for development

During the workshop, delegates will be hands on reflecting on their own developmental journey and engage in group discussion focusing motivational strategies. In addition, delegates will leave with an understanding of tools that can be used to self-direct their own development.

Aims

The aim of the workshop is to enable Foundation Therapists to understand the processes involved in managing learning and development in the workplace. During the workshop, delegates will be hands on reflecting on their own developmental journey and engage in group discussion focusing motivational strategies. In addition, Foundation Therapists will leave with an understanding of tools that can be used to self-direct their own development

Objectives
  • Understand the role of individually held values and evaluate how these support development
  • Have knowledge of the role of reflection in personal and professional development
  • Be able to know the different sources of feedback and their role in migrating learning and how this can support the patient experience
  • Evaluating the role of emotions and other barriers in managing feedback
  • Apply supported reflection techniques to personal development experiences
  • Understand the role of planning, and in particular goals, in supporting the GDC’s enhanced-CPD framework
  • Describe and understand the role of goals in supporting development
  • Apply recognised goal setting techniques, following a reflection on individual development journeys
  • Understand self-control strategies associated with task based performance
  • Evaluate the role of motivation beliefs in guiding individual and team performance.
Learning outcomes

Following the session therapists will be aware of effective self-management approaches and understand how these support professional development within the GDC’s enhanced CPD framework.
