Aims

To effectively manage dental emergencies by triaging patients and managing appointment times efficiently.

Objectives
  • Identify red flag symptoms i.e. swelling, bleeding and trauma.
  • Define what authentic trauma and bleeding is.
  • Distinguish what pain can be managed for 24 hours and what cannot wait.
  • Recognise what advice to give to patients for pain management.
  • Discuss how to safely signpost out of hours patents dependent on what their symptoms are.
Learning outcomes

Delegate’s will be able to identify:

  • Red flag symptoms and act appropriately.
  • An accidental overdose and refer for additional support.
  • A patient’s medical history and understand how the patient’s wellbeing may be affected if not seen on the same day.
