This course is subsidised by Health Education England. The subsidised fee is £95.00. This fee includes the practical sessions and consumables, a sandwich lunch and refreshments. 

Places on this course are limited to 16 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The course closing date is 14th April 2023.

Cancellation policy: A refund, less £15 administration fee, is guaranteed for cancellations received up to three weeks before the start of the course (14th April at 5pm). No refund will be made for cancellations received after this date or for failure to attend. Substitutions fulfilling the criteria may be made at any time prior to the course start. Currently if a cancellation is due to Covid, proof of a positive PCR test is required for a refund to be issued as detailed above. At any stage, if the course needs to be cancelled by the University a full refund of the delegate fee will be given.

Aims

This course will cover tips and techniques for administration of local anaesthesia, and successful atraumatic extraction of primary teeth. The course will involve video demonstrations, hands on training on phantom head, practical assessment, and post training theoretical assessment.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the event, delegates will be able to:

  • Diagnose and recognise primary teeth of poor prognosis which require extraction
  • Interpret radiographs and understand when would be appropriate to refer for inhalation sedation or general anaesthesia
  • Demonstrate through simulation the atraumatic removal of a primary tooth, including dose calculation and administration of local anaesthetic
  • Discuss the management of complications such as root fracture and undertake practice in the use of elevators
