This session aims to give:

  • A brief understanding of the lower back
  • Key prevention tips for lower back pain
  • Advice on how to manage acute lower back pain
Objectives
  • Discuss why back pain is important in Dentistry
  • Understand anatomy of the lower back and what lower back pain is
  • Examine structures that cause lower back pain
  • Describe the role and limitations of imaging in lower back pain
  • Look at what acute and chronic low back pain is
  • Understand Overload and Underload
  • Discuss the recent evidence on how to test and manage lower back pain
  • Examine how to prevent lower back pain and other musculoskeletal pains and hoe to manage acute and chronic lower back pain
  • Understand ergonomic effects on lower back pain in terms of chairs, posture and loupes

  • Understand the brief anatomy of the lower back and what causes the pain
  • Know how to prevent lower back pain with simple modalities
  • Know how to reduce lower back pain at home or in the dental practice
