Aims | This session aims to: - To increase the knowledge of practitioners in recognizing and responding to safeguarding issues and concerns including Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
- To ensure that all professionals are working in compliance with the required level 2 safeguarding competencies stipulated within the Safeguarding Intercollegiate document.

Objectives | - Discuss how to advocate for children, YP and adults at risk.
- Define the potential impact of a parent or carer’s physical and mental health and wellbeing on a child or vulnerable adult.
- State how to recognise and respond to risk.
- Classify professional roles and responsibilities and the responsibilities of multi-agency partners.
- Review key national legislation, the legal framework, MCA and consent.
- Explain how to identify appropriate action to take if you are concerned that a child, YP or adult at risk may be suffering harm.
- Define the LAC legal framework and health’s responsibility towards complying with statutory requirements
- Clarify the importance of sharing information and acting as an advocate. Taking into account consent and confidentiality issues
- Describe ACES, and their effects on the physical and emotional health of looked after children and young people

Learning outcomes | Following the session participants will be able to recognise signs of abuse in children including those looked after and care leavers and will be able to refer and respond accordingly within their practice. |
