Aims

This lecture will present an overview of the current status of dental implantology and the recent technological & clinical advances in this field to enable the dentist to provide appropriate advice to patients requiring implant treatment as well as maintenance of patients with dental implants

Objectives

· Learn treatment options for the patient with tooth loss

· Learn what implant treatment options might be appropriate for different modalities of tooth loss

· Learn how a GDP should get involved in implant dentistry

 

Learning Outcomes

After this lecture the learner will be able to:

· Discuss the current status of dental implantology and review the recent technological and clinical advances in this field

· Discuss the educational pathways and career options available to dentists in implant dentistry in the UK

· Discuss the treatment plan options for the management of tooth loss and how to advise patients on dental implant options

· Discuss maintenance of the dental implant patient
