Aims

To be aware of the range of periodontal conditions that requires treatment. To understand the principle aetiological and risk factors involved, understanding the importance of screening and assessment for periodontal disease in general practice and appreciate the range of options available. This course will give delegates a greater understanding of the indications for, and limitations of antimicrobial

Objectives

Objective:

The objective of this course is to ensure that Dentists and Hygienists are effectively screening for, assessing and diagnosing various periodontal diseases. We will also look at contemporary treatment strategies, the use of adjuncts and when to consider referral to a Specialist.

Learning Outcomes:

· Diagnose periodontal diseases accurately and effectively

· Use BPE as a fast and effective screening tool

· Assess patients’ level of risk for periodontitis accurately

· Choose an appropriate treatment approach for individual patients, understanding where advanced treatments fit into patients perio care

· Use antimicrobials in rational and evidence based way
