To give the Dental Foundation Therapists current information on managing both periodontal disease, and those patients with implants in general practice.

Objectives

IMPLANT

  • Provide a brief history of dental implants
  • To provide an overview of the different types of implant available and when they each might be used
  • Discuss the different types of oral hygiene aids available to clean dental implants – what works, and what doesn’t
  • Encourage participants to demonstrate confidence when treating patients with dental implants

PERIO

  • Discuss the oral health of the UK population and how we should manage our patients in general practice, both now and in the future
  • Provide the benefits of effective cleaning with emphasis on interdental cleaning on a daily basis
  • Discuss what tools we already have – what works well, and what doesn’t work so well
  • Top tips to get your patients to WANT to brush and clean interdentally on a regular basis
Learning outcomes

Following the session Foundation Therapists will:

  • Have a better knowledge of dental implants and know the different systems used.
  • Have a better understanding of different oral hygiene aids
  • Be more confident when treating patients with implants
  • Understand the oral health needs and how to manage them.
  • How to use the tools we have to the best of their ability
  • Be confident in how to interact with your patients enabling them to want to brush and use oral hygiene tools.
