To provide an overview of common Oral Medicine conditions.

Objectives

· Outline the importance of history taking and detail how to take a history of oral ulceration and it’s importance in forming a diagnosis.

· Outline the important clinical features of oral ulcers

· Outline the different causes of oral ulceration.

· Illustrate common conditions which may present as oral ulceration, oral colour changes or oral swelling.

· Describe the multi-site presentation of the Immunobullous Diseases: Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid and Pemphigus Vulgaris.

· Describe the varying clinical presentations of oral cancer.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, participants will:

· Have a good understanding of the importance of history taking and be able to take an oral ulceration history.

· Be able to provide a clinical description of an oral ulcer.

· Recognise the different causes of oral ulceration.

· Identify common conditions which may present as oral ulceration.

· Identify common conditions which can present as oral colour changes.

· Identify common conditions which can present as oral swelling.

· Understand the multi-site presentation of the Immunobullous Diseases: Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid and Pemphigus Vulgaris.
