Aims

This session aims to update and equip delegates in their management of partially and completely edentulous patients with removable prostheses within their practice.

Objectives

Discuss partial denture theory with emphasis on:

  • principles of denture design
  • overdentures 
  • overlay dentures
  • management of free end saddles
  • rehabilitation of patients with palatal defects

Discuss complete denture theory with emphasis on:

  • principles of complete denture design
  • impression techniques
  • occlusal registration techniques 
  • management of flabby ridges
  • basic implant retained overdentures
Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, delegates should:

  • Have a working understanding of partial and complete denture design
  • Appreciate which impression and occlusal registration techniques may be appropriate when managing a removable prosthodontic patient.
  • Understand how to design overlay/overdentures.
  • Understand how to manage a patient with combination syndrome.
  • Understand the principles of duplicate and immediate denture prosthodontics.
  • Have an understanding of basic implant retained overdenture design and appreciate how patients with palatal defects can be rehabilitated with obturated.
