Aims

To provide an update on National Standards for Decontamination in primary dental care to support compliance & to Improve understanding of the Decontamination Cycle

Objectives
  • Identify standards required to achieve essential quality requirments for decontamination and what is required to achieve best practice
  • Identify roles and responsibilities for decontamination personnel
  • Describe each stage of the decontamination cycle and discuss advantages and disadvantages of different methods of: cleaning, sterilization, packaging & storage and transportation of instruments.
  • Recognise the testing and validation requirements for decontamination equipment & what records should be kept.
Learning outcomes

Delegates will be able to demonstrate compliance with the National Standards for decontamination in primary dental care. They will understand how to carry out each stage of the decontamination cycle focusing on risk reduction to prevent the spread of infection.
