  • To provide an overview of the commissioning system in dentistry and the key considerations and process behind decision making.
Objectives
  • To provide an overview of the key stakeholders in the commissioning of dental services.
  • To review the evidence base to a number of commissioned dental services and oral health programmer.
  • To consider some of the main sources of information which may be included in a needs assessment.
  • To inform delegates of some of the key considerations in making commissioning decisions.
Learning outcomes

Delegates will:

  • Be able to identify the key organisations and individuals who may be involved in dental commissioning
  • Understand the evidence base behind a number of commonly commissioned dental services and oral health programmes.
  • Understand the scope of a local oral health needs assessment.
  • Understand some of the key considerations behind commissioning decisions including how decision are made around prioritising.
