Aims

To help practitioners improve their composite resin and tooth preparation skills to allow them to manage tooth wear patients. It will be a series of seminars and practicals on the aetiology and restorative management of tooth surface loss. Delegates will be given the opportunity to build up a set of worn anterior teeth with composite (using a palatal index), and will be asked to prepare worn posterior teeth for adhesive gold onlays.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the event, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the aetiology of non-carious tooth surface loss.
  • Describe the different options available to manage tooth surface loss, including the use of indirect restorations, overdentures and composite resin.
  • Recognise that a full contour wax-up and palatal matrix/index can significantly help the clinician to restore worn teeth with composite resin, especially if a layering technique is to be employed.
  • Describe the limitations, longevity and maintenance issues relating to the use of composite resin to restore worn teeth.
  • Restore worn posterior teeth with adhesive gold onlays.
