Aims

To enable the new dental graduate to not make assumptions on the outcome of what may at first appear to be a relatively simple treatment plan.

Most complaints stem from communication problems which can lead to inadequate consent and patent expectations not being met.

Objectives

A series of clinical scenarios will be presented and the FDs will be asked to formulate simple treatment plans.

I will then give feedback and stimulate discussion on factors which the FDs may not have taken into account.

Anecdote and reflection on my past mistakes will illustrate that the patient is the person with a dental problem and not just a clinical puzzle that needs to be solved.

Learning outcomes

The FD will become aware of additional factors which will influence treatment outcomes.
