  • To provide a better understanding of orthodontics relevant to the GDP.
Objectives

1. Assessment of malocclusions, use of indices, treatment and referral guidelines

2. Understanding orthodontic tooth movement principles

3. Explore the various orthodontic systems on the market

4. Explore a career in orthodontics

Learning outcomes
  • Review eruption dates
  • Identify and assessment of common malocclusions and use of orthodontic indices
  • Management of treatable malocclusions
  • How and when to refer
  • Understand the physiological process involved in tooth movement and the terminology/ order of tooth movement
  • Understand the similarities and differences of various removable and fixed appliances available to the GDP.
  • Hands on experience with bracket placement, archwire ligation and wire bending.
  • Look at the current specialist pathway for orthodontics, alternative courses and further education options.
