Aims

To help Foundation Dentists provide better Oral Surgery care for their patients, by improving their Oral Surgery skills in the following areas:

  • Assessment of surgical dentistry patients in general practice
  • Undertaking simple surgical procedures, fractured teeth and retained roots, effectively and safely
  • Being aware of, and where appropiate, being able to undertake simple third molar removal, apicectomies on anterior teeth, biopsy of small, non-suspicious lesions and primary closure of an ora-antral communication
  • Being aware of personal limitations in provision of Oral Surgery
Objectives

  • Develop their oral surgery skills as a general dental practitioner to be able to provide simple surgical removal of fractured teeth, retained roots, simple third molars, apicectomies on anterior teeth, biopsy of non-suspicious lesions, and primary closure of an oro-antral communication, where appropriate, and within skill set
  • Review surgical instrument needs within a general practice
