Objectives

· Provide a basic explanation of the physics and techniques of CT, MRI and Ultrasound.

· Demonstrate the differences in imaging appearances of dentoalveolar structures between the modalities.

· Discuss the use of cross sectional modalities as an adjunct / alternative to conventional planar radiographs in oro-facial disease.

Outcomes

· Have a basic grasp of the physics, advantages and disadvantages of CT, CBCT, MRI and Ultrasound.

· Be able to recognize these techniques from images.

· Appreciate when to request these investigations in dento-alveolar diagnosis.
