Mandatory: Dental Core Trainee Year 2/3

To present an overview of dental implants – surgical and restorative aspects.

- Explore the indications for dental implants

- Patient planning for dental implants

- Indications and contraindications for dental implants

- Step by step approach to placing and restoring dental implants

- Considerations for different implant prostheses – single teeth to full mouth rehabilitation

- Complications ad how to avoid them

Knowledge and understanding –

- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of implantology in dentistry.

- Demonstrate an understanding of the range of dental implantology treatment.

- Demonstrate an understanding of the influence that the patients general health may have on dental implant treatment.

- Demonstrate the understanding of appropriate dental implantology in selected cases, communicating with both specialist and non-specialist colleagues.

Intellectual skills –

- Understand limitations, benefits and risks of dental Implantology.

- Recognise own limitations, reflect on experiences and appreciate the need to continuing education.

- Appreciate the concept of multidisciplinary care of patients and teamwork.
