Learn how to encourage patients to change their long term habits and promote better oral health through key, evidence based messages and local support services.

Aims

To enable the dental team to have the necessary competence and skills to incorporate a prevention agenda in-line with the Delivering Better Oral Health Toolkit (3rd Edition, Public Health England) and support behaviour change.

Objectives
  • Demonstrate good effective oral hygiene and advice in-line with the evidence base.
  • Demonstrate the ability to discuss the cause and prevention of caries
  • Show competence in providing brief stop smoking advice
  • Show competence in providing brief alcohol prevention advice
  • Summarise key oral health prevention messages
  • Show competence and confidence to encourage people to change their behaviour and to direct then to local services that can support them
