Aims

To update members of the dental team on antimicrobial prescribing & resistance. Antimicrobial resistance is an evolving agenda.

This session aims to provide delegates with the confidence to manage their patients' conditions whilst playing their part to conserve antibiotics for future generations.

Objectives
  • Outline the dental team's role in protecting patients from antibiotic resistance
  • Explore options for optimising prescribing in practice
  • Identify resources for delivering antimicrobial stewardship in practice.

This lecture will be based on the latest regulations, guidance and prescriber competency framework for antimicrobial prescribing (including clinical audit)

Learning outcomes

Delegates will:

  • understand why antimicrobial resistance is a growing problem which places ourselves, our families, our friends and our patients are risk.
  • have the confidence to diagnose and treat dental infections in line with the principles of antimicrobial stewardship.
