Aims

To provide an overview of the decontamination cycle and recognise the standards required to demonstrate compliance with National Guidance in relation to decontamination in Primary Dental Care.

Objectives

Raise awareness and increase knowledge of decontamination processes for dental instruments and the evidence required to demonstrate compliance with National Guidance.

Learning outcomes
  •  Recognise current national guidance in relation to decontamination of dental instruments and demonstrate what evidence is required within the practice.
  •  Define decontamination roles and responsibilities as described in National Guidance
  •  Describe each stage of the decontamination cycle and recognise the standards required to demonstrate compliance with national guidance
  •  Identify decontamination equipment used in primary dental care and recognise testing and maintenance requirements for each.
