Aims

This course is to help participants develop an understanding of hearing loss and the differences between people who are deaf and hard of hearing and access requirements of individuals when they are using their service.

Objectives
  • Hearing Loss and Disabled People (accessible services for all)
  • Sterotyping, Prejudice, Images and breaking down barriers to accessing health
  • Medical and Social Models of Disability and inclusive services
  • Differences between people who are hard of hearing, deafened, Deaf and deafblind and different requirements of individuals
  • Communication Support and developing accessible and inclusive services to all people with hearing loss
  • Understanding Communication Techniques and promoting accessible information
  • British Sign Language (BSL) and Sign Support English (SSE)
  • Basic understanding of Hearing Aids
  • Equipment (Environmental Aids)

Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will know how to improve and make services more accessible for patients with hearing loss such as hard of hearing, deafened, Deaf and deafblind
  • Particpants will understand about the correct and different types of support for these people
