Aims | To help Foundation Dentists provide better Oral Surgery care for their patients, by improving their Oral Surgery skills in the following areas:

Objectives | Assess surgical patients Demonstrate the principles of Flap design, Bone Removal and Suturing Demonstrate principles of third molar removal, apicectomies and biopsies Review common complications and their management · Identify appropriate surgical instruments · Discuss appropriate referral practice, limitations and patient safety. | ||
Learning outcomes | Be able to assess patient’s surgical needs, and refer where appropriate Develop their oral surgery skills as a general dental practitioner to be able to provide simple surgical removal of fractured teeth, retained roots, simple third molars, apicectomies on anterior teeth, biopsy of non-suspicious lesions, and primary closure of an oro-antral communication, where appropriate, and within skill set · Review surgical instrument needs within a general practice environment. | ||
