Aims | - On completion of the training, the participant should be able to demonstrate resuscitation of an adult and child in cardiac arrest and describe how they would manage a medical emergency in the initial stages

Objectives | - Recognise cardiorespiratory arrest
- Know how to summon help immediately (dial 999)
- Be able to perform CPR, using chest compressions and providing ventilation with a pocket mask or bag-mask device and supplemental oxygen.
- Be able to attempt defibrillation (if appropriate) within 3 minutes of collapse, using an AED
- Recognise signs and symptoms of common medical emergencies and treat appropriately

Learning outcomes | - Know Current Adult Basic Life Support Guidelines
- Make considerations when undertaking resuscitation in a dental chair
- Demonstrate placing a patient in the recovery position
- Demonstrate use of pocket masks (with 02 therapy)
- Demonstrate use of suction, including portable suction
- Demonstrate infant and child resuscitation practice
- Demonstrate use of bag valve mask (two person)
- Describe how to use oro-pharyngeal airways
- Demonstrate use of Automated External Defibrillator
- Demonstrate how to manage choking
- Describe how to manage a medical emergency in the dental practice
- Demonstrate ability to lead a team in an emergency
