Aims

The aim is to give an overview of oral and oropharyngeal cancer from both the professional and patient perspective in respect to diagnosis, treatment, dental aspects and survivorship.

Objectives

To learn:

i. Oral and oropharyngeal cancer diagnosis – how patients present

ii. Oral and oropharyngeal cancer treatment – what is involved

iii. Role of the dentist in ongoing care

iv. What is it like to be a cancer survivor

Learning outcomes

More confidence to diagnose, and refer possible oral and oropharyngeal cancer patients.

Clear understanding on what treatment involves and the impact this has on patients and their family.

Appreciation of the role of the dentist in the care of patients following treatment.
