Aims

An Update on the use of local Anaesthetics by dental hygienists and therapists:

An update on exemptions for PoMs;

Learning outcomes
  • understand the ways LA can be used by Dental hygienists and therapists 
  • describe the relevant anatomy and understand the basic pharmacology related to LA administration
  • describe the side effects and complications associated with local anaesthetics administration 
  • to  understand the mechanisms by which medicines ca be supplied and administered 
  • to update the audience on how the case of need is progressing to apply for exemptions for certain PoMs form requiring a prescription
  • to be aware of the progress being made by NHS England , BADT and BSDHT to build a case of need to apply for exemptions 
  • be aware of how the audience can help towards building the case of need 
  • appreciate the time frame of the project 
  • comprehend the training that will be required if the project is successful
