Aims

To highlight the difficulties in diagnosing orofacial pain and gaining the correct diagnosis to prevent complications of unnecessary surgery

Objectives
  • To familiarise the delegate with up to date knowledge on pain classification and diagnostic features
  • To equip the delegate with strategies to identify neuropathic versus inflammatory pain to prevent ill advised surgery
  • To provide the delegate with evidence based strategies to prevent and manage neuropathic pain
  • To provide examples of poor and good practice for dental patients presenting with neuropathic pain
  • To provide advice around referral of such cases

To enable the delegate to make correct diagnosis and to appropriately advise/sign post their patient and make an appropriate referral when necessary
