Aims

Review number of areas of controversy commonly discussed on dental forums and amongst dentists

Objectives

Points of discussion to include:

  • Evidence of transmission of infections in the dental surgery- no need for cleanliness beyond that for cutlery for non- surgical treatment
  • Evidence for need for washer disinfectors over Ultrasonics or manual cleaning
  • Storage time for instruments - shorter in Scotland than in england - what’s the evidence
  • Autoclaves - vacuum or non vacuum ? handpieces
  • Domestic Sprays for surface cleaning
  • Sterile or no sterile gloves for dental surgery
  • Hep B immunisation schedule- when can new staff work
  • Infected healthcare worker- rules and regulation
  •  Handwashing/gels/alcohol rubs etc
