Aims

To equip staff with the skills and knowledge to be able to identify, respond to, and report safeguarding concerns in children and vulnerable adults in dental practice

Safeguarding Children

• Child development / National assessment framework (attachment theory)

• Child Protection Process (Working Together 2013)

• Joint investigation process & roles/responsibilities of professionals involved

• Perspective of child & family involved in CP process

• Knowledge of CP conferences & role of independent reviewing officer

• Knowledge of LSCB’s

Safeguarding Adults at Risk

• Understand roles & responsibilities of others under Safeguarding Adults at Risk Procedures

• Understand the investigation process from alert to referral, planning meeting & protection plan

• Understanding emotional aspect of making a decision for another who lacks capacity

• Demonstrate an awareness of the main principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Best interest principles

• Understand the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

• Other safeguarding arrangements eg MAPPA & MARAC and National Child and Domestic Abuse Disclosure schemes

• Knowledge of SAP boards

• Referral pathway - meeting structure – time scales
