To update on diagnosis, prevention and management of periodontal diseases in general dental practice.

Review the key elements of oral health assessment as it relates to diagnosis and management of Periodontal diseases. The importance of individually tailored teatment planning including advice to patients for their home care, and ongoing review and monitoring, covering the following topics:

· What is a BPE?

· Using an appropriate probe

· If you record it what do you do about it?

· Level of recall

· How do you audit it?

· How do you communicate to patients?

· How do you follow it up?

Learning Objectives

Participants will have refreshed their knowledge of diagnosis and management of periodontal diseases in general dental practice, followed through a structured Periodontal Care Pathway, from initial oral health assessment with particular reference to appropriate diagnosis of Periodontal diseases, to management, advice for home care, ongoing care and appropriate referral to secondary care
