Aims
  • To appreciate the range of periodontal conditions that require treatment, and those that do not.
  • To understand the principal aetiological and risk factors involved in the development of periodontal diseases.
  • To understand the importance of screening and assessment for periodontal disease in general dental practice.
  • To appreciate the range of treatment options available for periodontal diseases.
Objectives
  • To understand when new treatment techniques, such as regeneration, can be used.
  • To understand the relevance of antimicrobials in periodontal treatment.
  • To be able to undertake long-term treatment planning in complex cases.
Learning outcomes

The course should enable participants to:

Diagnose periodontal diseases accurately and effectively.

Use BPE as a fast and effective screening tool.

Select the correct treatment options in a variety of clinical situations.

Plan in detail treatment approaches relevant to individual patients.

Decide more easily when to treat and when to refer.
