Aims

To introduce the students to the specialty of Dental Public Health and how dental services are commissioned.

Objectives

To inform the students about the remit of Dental Public Health, including commissioning cycle.

To illustrate career pathways to getting into Dental Public Health.

To illustrate with a practical workshop exercise how needs data is used in commissioning.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session students should:

Be aware of the 3 pillars of Dental Public Health.

Have a basic knowledge of the commissioning cycle and how dental services are commissioned.

Have an appreciation of career pathways in Dental Public Health and the specialist training programme.

Understand how social and health data can inform the commissioning of dental services to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes for patients.
