Aims

This half day hands on course is aimed at Dental Practitioners with no, or very little, experience of providing MOS in general practice to gain a basic understanding and be able to provide simple MOS procedures where appropriate

Objectives
  • Self-assessment of current skills identifying personal development needs
  • Mapping of session to delegates personal development
  • Choosing appropriate instruments and materials
  • Developing awareness of personal abilities and limitations
  • Assessment of patients for MOS
  • Practice simple MOS techniques; raising a flap, removing bone, removing teeth/roots, placing sutures
  • Who, what, when and how to refer appropriately
Learning outcomes

Delegates will

  • Demonstrate the principles of Flap design and Bone Removal
  • Demonstrate the principles of suturing
  • Identify appropriate surgical instrumentation
  • Develop good clinical practice with regards to their role as educational supervisor and as a dental Practitioner
  • Discuss appropriate referral procedures
