Aims

To prepare the Foundation Dentists for the financial aspects of Dentistry

Objectives

Make the Foundation Dentists more aware of:

  • the advantages of having a formal associate contract
  • understand the principle features of associate pay calculations
  • understand their obligations to partake in the Annual Reconcilliation Report via the NHS portal
  • their obligations when self employed as regards accounts, tax returns and the payment of taxes
Learning outcomes

By the end of this lecture FD's will:

  • be aware of the main clauses within an Associateship agreement
  • be able to calculate their own pay as an Associate
  • be able to keep basic accounting records as an Associate
  • be aware of the timings of paying tax as an Associate, the likely amount due and methods of saving to pay this tax
