Became a specialist in Paediatric Dentistry in 2000 and worked as a Senior Dental Officer in the CDS and as a specialist at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Currently work as a specialist in paediatric dentistry in Central Manchester in both the community dental service and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

I have worked mainly in community dentistry, providing the lead for specialist paediatric care. Experience includes management of children with additional and complex needs, children with extensive caries, inhalation sedation, provision of dental treatment under general anaesthesia, trauma, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate dental students paediatric dentistry.

Tips on patient management, treatment planning and treating caries , skill mix and therapists, when to refer, safeguarding and immediate management of trauma.

Aims

Improve knowledge of management and treatment of children in dental practice and increase knowledge and confidence in when to refer to other services.

Objectives

Discussion of behavioural management, treatment of caries with case scenarios, including when to refer patients to other services. Explanation of the role of the dental team in safeguarding children.

Learning outcomes

The delegate will have increased knowledge of patient management and treatment planning, including immediate management of some dental trauma situations. The delegate will know what an appropriate referral is and when to make it. The delegate will have a greater understanding of the role of other dental care professionals.
