Aims

To provide content and resources to enable delegates to recognise suspicious oral lesions and oral cancer and to develop their knowledge of latest research in this area.

Objectives
  • Demonstrate how to detect and appropriately refer patients with suspicious oral lesions
  • Explain the management pathway for patients diagnosed with oral cancer and the role of the dental team
  • Describe the latest developments in the field of oral cancer prevention and management through work at the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre
Learning outcomes

Delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise symptoms (red flags) and signs of suspicious oral lesions including oral epithelial dysplasia and oral cancer.
  • Apply how to make an appropriate onward referral to secondary care in line with national guidelines
  • Identify the common oral manifestations of cancer treatment and dental management of patients undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Recall the ongoing research in the field of head and neck cancer
