· To develop a clear understanding of the anatomy of the lumbar region of the spine

· Identify and acquire the equipment used in performing a lumbar puncture and the safe way in which it is used

To identify any potential complications and/or contraindications before, during and after the procedure whilst keeping the patient at the centre of all decisions
