Aims

The ASCME course is aimed to give you experience in management of acute medical emergencies and human factors. The courses will be run across the deanery. Core Medical Trainees year 1 should endeavour to attend the ASCME course. If you are unable to attend any of the courses in your region due to on call commitments, you could attend the course in another region. It is your responsibility to book study leave for the course. On the day you attend the ASCME course, please prepare as you would for a normal day at work, and bring your stethoscope and a pen.

As the course is mandatory it will be funded by the Deanery, but you should submit a study leave form. (You should book onto the session at least six weeks in advance). The course costs £200, and this should be indicated on the form. The Deanery will fund this course. However, if you fail to attend the course without giving advanced notice you will be asked to pay £100 towards the cost of the course that you subsequently attend.
