| Description | Medical Procedures Refresher (MPR) course *timing include comfort breaks Station 1 Knee Aspiration, approx. 10 minutes intro demonstration on task trainer then 5 minutes per trainee per observed procedure Station 2 Ascitic Drainage/Paracentesis, approx; 10 mins intro/demo & 10 mins per trainee per procedure Station 3 DCCV & Cardiac Pacing, approx; 15 minutes intro/demo then 10 mins each procedure ( 20 mins per trainee per procedure) Station 4 Chest Drain, approx;20 mins intro/demo & 20 mins per trainee per procedure Station 5 CVC Insertion, approx.; 20mins intro/demo & 20 mins per trainee per procedure Station 6 Lumbar Puncture, approx; 10 mins intro/demo & 10 mins per trainee for procedure Discussion & Feedback | ||

| Aims | The MPR course offers an opportunity for STRs to practice hands-on procedural experience in a clinical skills lab, and gain summative DOPS assessment, in 10 curriculum-linked medical procedures. These include: • RIJ CVC (using Ultrasound guidance) • Pleural aspiration & Intercostal chest drain (for pneumothorax) • Femoral venous access for resuscitation • Ascitic Tap & Abdominal Paracentesis • Lumbar puncture • DC cardioversion in the emergency setting • Temporary Cardiac pacing using an external device • Knee joint aspiration is also included The course is aimed at regional GIM medical registrars. It is fully funded by School of Medicine as part of curriculum delivery budget. | ||
