Aims | Within your IMT years you will all come across situations where patients will inevitably die, whether it be within hours or within the year from when you meet them, and these will occur on the ward, in clinic and in emergencies. You will not complete a individual placement in Palliative care, you will meet many experiences within all of your placements and in order to give you the experience and skills you need we run two courses in Yorkshire and the humber. One is Project ECHO (you will get another email with all the sign up details for this so keep your eye out) and the second is CoMPaSs CoMPaSs stands for Communicating Medicine within Palliative SituationS. It is a face to face simulation course where we run through simulations with actors and a very experienced faculty from all across medicine. The simulations cover all aspects of conversations dealing with death and dying in the last year of life and replicates scenarios on the wards and in clinic. CoMPaSs core belief is in feedback- you will receive detailed feedback on the day on your strengths and weaknesses and a summary of feedback will be emailed to you and your educational supervisor for your portfolio at the end of the course. We also provide a reflection guide to aid your reflective practice. CoMPaSs is not compulsory, but comes highly recommended by your peers and seniors. It is a fantastic preparation course for PACES. This - as described by all the attendees last year, is one of the best courses in the IMT programme at present. | ||
