DescriptionTo provide an update on the knowledge and practical skills required to ensure the safe and effective administration of dental Local Anaesthesia (LA) including inferior dental blocks- participants will attend several morning seminars followed by the afternoon practical application on specially designed local anaesthetic models. Direct supervision and support provided throughout the course to ensure participants gain confidence to deliver local anaesthetic in their practice settings.

Aims

This one day course provides an update on theoretical and pharmacological knowledge for safe delivery off local anaesthetic.

Objectives

The course will discuss and explain:

  1. An update on ethical guidance for DCP's providing local anaesthetic in General Practice.
  2. Refresh knowledge on the key anatomical landmarks for effective placement.
  3. Increase confidence in the use of IDB's and infiltration techniques.
Learning outcomes
  1. Updated and refreshed knowledge to achieve safe delivery and effective use of local anaesthesia for patient care.
  2. Confidently and effectively manage patient anxiety and pain through effective communication, reassurance and relevant behavioural techniques.
  3. Appropriately use local analgesia techniques cognisant of the underpinning theoretical knowledge.
  4. Share the legal and ethical knowledge for administration of local anaesthesia within their working environment.
