Lecturer profileLouise Foster is a dentist. She has been a committee member of BMLS since 2005 and was honoured to be President from 2011-13.

Louise is a specialist in Prosthodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry. She qualified from Manchester University with distinction in Clinical Dental Surgery. Following a house job in Manchester, she subsequently spent the first part of her career as a Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at Bristol Dental until 2000. During this time she gained a PhD in caries in 1996 and then FRACDS in 1999. Louise has published articles principally relating to restorative dentistry including caries and bridgework.

Following working as the dental officer on the QE2 during the world cruise in 2000, she changed careers to the Community Dental Service. She is now Joint Clinical Director of GCS Community Dental Service and also a part time consultant in Restorative Dentistry. She has been involved with undergraduate and postgraduate dental education at Bristol University as well as a previous national examiner for NEBDN. She runs postgraduate courses on preventive dentistry and caries. Her main clinical interests include looking after patients with Head and Neck Cancer and those requiring Special Care who need advanced restorative skills. Over the years she has been extensively involved with the British Dental Association at local, regional and national level.
