Clinical Professor of Dental Education at King’s College London and an NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the King’s College London Dental Institute at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Specialist in Prosthodontics and in Restorative Dentistry.

Resume of career:
Programme Director for the internationally popular MClinDent (Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics) now in its 25th year with graduates in over 60 countries practising a higher level of clinical dentistry. In the past set up the highly successful MSc programmes in Aesthetic Dentistry and also Advanced General Dental Practice by blended learning at the KCL Dental Institute. Established overseas training in Prosthodontics.

With 43 years experience in clinical practice and currently an active specialist clinician in both hospital and private practice, particularly in treating tooth wear, aesthetic and occlusal problems utilising MI philosophies where possible. Involved in setting up online referrals and triage in Restorative Dentistry and improved referral pathways for the NHS.

Experienced teacher to undergraduates, foundation dentists, general practitioners and postgraduate dentists. Well-known provider of postgraduate education nationally and internationally at conferences through lectures, seminars, webinars and hands-on courses.

Published over 180 papers, supervised over 200 students at PhD and Masters level, involved in setting up MOOCs with over 20,000 students. Series Editor of three books on Essentials in Esthetic Dentistry. As well leading on the silencing of the dental drill collaboration, research includes management of occlusal problems using MI techniques, bringing together aesthetics and function with a focus on tooth preservation.

Short resume of career to date:
Bill is Associate Dean for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Director of the London Dental Education Centre (LonDEC) at the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, King’s College London which is Europe’s largest dental institute and is ranked No. 1 in the world for dentistry. Bill has responsibility for running LonDEC, the post-qualification training establishment at the faculty. LonDEC was awarded “Best Dental Education & Training Centre, UK” in 2019 and 2020.
He qualified in 1986 and spent the next 10 years working in the U.K and abroad where he gained advanced qualifications in fixed and removable prosthodontics. Prior to working in academia Bill worked in the Armed Forces (British Army, Royal Army Dental Corp for 16 years). In 1999 Bill completed a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) at one of London’s Business Schools where he graduated with a distinction.
Bill is a teacher and examiner for the faculty’s MSc Aesthetic Dentistry & MClinDent Fixed & Removable Prosthodontic programmes. He has lectured extensively within the UK and internationally. Bill also works in private practice in Surrey. He is also the External Examiner for the BSc(Hons) Clinical Dental Technology programme that runs at UCLan. Bill Chairs the CPD wokstream for the global initiative – DentALLiance – this is a collaborative venture between some of the worlds leading dental schools – King’s, Melbourne, Singapore and North Carolina.
He has served on the editorial board of the Quintessence Journal of Dental Technology and is currently serving on the education committee of the International Federation of Denturists. He has authored/co-authored a number of refereed published papers and has recently authored a chapter in the Elsevier “Essentials of Esthetic Dentistry - Principles of Practice” as well as a chapter on Occlusion and use of articulators in the Wiley published “Practical Procedures in Aesthetic Dentistry”.
Bill has served on the Faculty of General Dental Practice Dental Care Professionals (DCP) Committee at the Royal College of Surgeons working with other members to formulate strategy relating to DCP Education, has been a member of the dental panel of GlaxoSmithKline and is a UK and Global Opinion Leader for several dental companies. Bill sits on the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry contributing to oral health strategies that form part of governmental policy. He is a Council member of the College of General Dentistry and Chairs/sits on a number of College working Groups.
Bill is a Fellow of the College of General Dentistry and has a Fellowship of the International Team in Implantology (ITI), Fellowship of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Trainers, Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
