DescriptionPlease join us in Dorset for an exciting Paediatric study day covering the diagnosis of caries in primary teeth, management and the use of preformed metal crowns (theory and practical session), the management of the carious first permanent molar, trauma including a hands-on opportunity to practice making a splint and a discussion on emergency management and how to manage an open apex and stabilise a patient in pain. This course will be suitable for all members of the team who treat children in their scope of practice or who are keen to learn more about Paediatric management. It is also suitable for those colleagues working towards their performer number.
Additional information

Please note there is limited parking at the venue but there are public car parks available for a fee for the day  a few minutes walk away. Just Park £6.00 a day (December 2023).

Aims

The aim of this day is to describe the management of paediatric patients presenting in primary care dental practices for routine or emergency treatment.


Objectives

By the end of this day delegates should be able to:

  1. Explain the procedure and describe the scientific basis, indications and contraindication for preformed metal crowns
  2. Identify, assess, manage and treatment plan the compromised first permanent molar in children (MIH conditions)
  3. Recognise the recently updated trauma guideline including the practical technique for splint placement
  4. Explain the physiology of dental trauma and recognise how management of dental trauma in practice can have a long term effect on the outcome for traumatised teeth.
  5. Describe the urgent management of the tooth with an open apex when there is pulpal involvement from caries or trauma and know when to refer.
Learning outcomes

By the end of this day participants will be better able to manage paediatric patients in primary care, who present with caries or trauma
