Aims

To help practitioners improve their provision of partial dentures in practice by understanding what may "go wrong" and how to avoid the pitfalls.

To update knowledge and improved ability to design partial dentures for a wide variety of situations.

Objectives
  1. Design appropriate partial dentures for a variety of situations based on sound biological and mechanical principles.
  2. Carry out tooth modification to improve the performance of the dentures.
  3. Be aware of the periodontal implications of partial dentures and how adverse impact on oral health can be managed.
  4. Be able to manage occlusion appropriately with partial dentures.
  5. Be aware of pitfalls and problems which can reduce the effectiveness of partial dentures.
Learning outcomes
  1. Design partial dentures in Cobalt Chrome.
  2. Design partial dentures in Acrylic.
  3. Design partial dentures using flexible materials.
  4. Understand and be able to carry out tooth preparation and modifications to improve the stability and retention of partial dentures.
