DescriptionAdditional skills dental nurse training - Impression taking course for DCPs, Criteria of students entering the course, Registered DCP with the General Dental Council, In current employment, Have the written support of his/her employer, Professional Indemnity cover, Evidence of appropriate up to date CPD (eg BLS, Medical Emergencies), Not all participants will have undertaken a Dental Nurse Training course which has equivalence to NVQ 3. However it is felt that all students will have the ability to engage in the level of work required to successfully complete this course.

Aims

This course will provide the practical and theoretical knowledge and skills needed in order for DCPs to competently take impressions for patients to the prescription of a dentist.

Objectives

Students will be able to

1. Check patient's medical history and consent form 

2. Check prescriptions for patient for impression requested

3.  Prepare the surgery and patient for impression taking and wax bite registration

4.  Select and prepare materials to be used for the taking of dental impressions

5.  Use a safe technique to take accurate impressions of the patients jaws and register the bite to an appropiate standard

6.  Be able to manage any complications that might occure during the procedure

7.  Ensure continunity of care for the patients.
