DescriptionWendy Thompson, microbiologist and dentist, is the perfect person to update us on prescribing antimicrobials in practice, within the context of current and future regulations. With the increasing problem of antibiotic resistance there is a greater focus on antibiotic stewardship within general dental practice. Using the DoH Competencies for Prescribers on Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship, Wendy will update us with lectures, scenarios and discussion.

Wendy Thompson BSc (Hons) Microbiology, BDS (Hons) MJDF

NICBefore retraining as a dentist, Wendy was a scientist with the Ministry of Defence and Policy Officer in Lancashire.   She works in general practice in Cumbria and is clinical supervisor for undergraduate dental students in Morecambe.

In addition, she lectures foundation dentists on antimicrobial prescribing for Health Education North East.  She has been recently appointed to the NICE guideline development group on antimicrobial stewardship and the BNF advisory group.
