Lecturer profileProfessor Robinson was awarded a PhD in Biochemistry in Leeds in 1998. He joined the Dental School Biological Research Unit in 1968 and ultimately was appointed head of the Department of Oral Biology, 1985-2001. His appointment as the first Research Director of the Newly Formed Leeds Dental Institute 1992-2004, saw a considerable rise in the Institute’s research rating.

Professor Robinson has published over 300 peer reviewed papers. These mainly cover mineralisation processes in dental and skeletal tissues, fluoride biochemistry and plaque biofilm biochemistry and dental caries.

Professor Robinson was awarded the ORCA Rolex Prize for investigations into the biochemistry of dental enamel in 1982. He was awarded the Distinguished Scientist Award International Association for Dental research in 1993 for outstanding investigations into biomineralisation. In 1998 Professor Robinson was elected a Founder Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Professor Robinson has served as President of the British society for Dental and Orofacial Research and President and Secretary General for the European Organisation for Caries Research (ORCA). He has served on the Advisory Boards for the Research Councils UK.

Appointed Professor Emeritus in 2007 he continues with paper and grant reviewing, postgraduate teaching and consultancy work.
