| Additional information | Please read the dissecting room regulations prior to attending the day. Surgical gowns, over shoes, facemasks and gloves are provided for the lab. If you wish to wear theatre blues please bring your own and return to your theatres. | Aims | To be able to confidently start to raise the basic free flaps used in oral and maxillofacial surgical reconstructive practice and understand relevant planning considerations and anatomy | ||||
| Learning outcomes | By the end of the session participants should 1. For Radial forearm, fibula and anterolateral thigh free flaps be able to a. Recall the brief history of the free flap development b. The relevant surgical anatomy c. Be able to list the steps in the standard surgical technique to raise the flap 2. Be able to translate the knowledge to be able to raise on anatomical specimens a. Radial forearm free flap b. Fibula free flap c. ALT Free flap 3. Be able to understand some of the important considerations to virtual surgical planning an osseo-cutaneous free flap. 4. Have had the opportunity to discuss with a biomedical engineer the key information they require when planning cases 5. Have seen the planning process for a mock fibula free flap | ||||
