Description | This course involves a full day of theory via didactic teaching and group discussions and imaging on the 1st day at York Hospital and day 2 practical experience on Thiel Cadavers at Leeds University. The faculty is highly experienced and varied with both general surgeons and plastic surgeons involved to provide expert surgical mentorship. We are lucky to have an anatomist to present the detailed anatomy of the surgical environment. The second day, takes place in the cadaveric labs in Leeds. We will have 6 Thiel cadavers available and a mixture of delegates. Trainees will consist of general surgical trainees of different levels. Paediatric surgical trainees have also been invited. There will also be theatre assistants and we have invited several surgical care practitioners. | ||||||
Additional information | This is an exciting 2 day course from 2 venues. The course involves a full day of theory, practical experience and knowledge of CAWR – a complex and evolving field of surgery for which York is a Tier 3 centre and a second day operating on Thiel cadavers. The course is run at 2 different venues Day 1 - York District Hospital- Postgraduate Department Day 2 - University of Leeds - Anatomy Department, to attend the second day trainees MUST attend the first day. The course is free to Yorkshire and Humber regional trainees. Non regional trainees will need to apply to CADSIM@leeds.ac.uk for availability and course fees prior to booking a place. Trainees must be able to attend both days (theory and practical). | ||||||

Aims | Day 1 - York District Hospital You will receive didactic teaching and engage in group discussions with faculty who are highly experienced in the field. · An anatomist will outline the complex anatomy of the abdominal wall · Radiologists will provide detailed images and discuss pre-operative botulinum toxin injections · General surgeons who specialise in CAWR will present the York Pathway of hernia assessment · Plastic surgeons will discuss wound closure and mesh complications · Complex cases and techniques will be presented · The most up to date literature in the field will be summarised Day 2- University of Leeds Takes place in the cadaveric labs at the University of Leeds. We will have 8 Thiel cadavers available and a mixture of delegates. Trainees will consist of general surgical trainees of different levels. Paediatric surgical trainees have also been invited. There will also be theatre assistants and we have invited several surgical care practitioners. · 8 Thiel cadavers( with previous surgery) will be available to a mixture of delegates · Expert mentorship will be provided by general surgeons who are experienced in CAWR | ||||||
